We Remember

WATANABE, Taeko

May 18, 1941 — April 5, 2023

It is with deep sadness that the family of Taeko Watanabe, of Kelowna, BC mourn her passing, on April 5, 2023, at the age of 81 years. She passed peacefully from complications of Alzheimer’s; her long struggle has come to an end, and we will miss her dearly.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Chuichi Watanabe; her son, Jun (Sharon) and grandchildren, Tracey, Kristin, & Adam; her son Patrick (Sonya) and grandchildren, Sydney, Jayda, & Peyton; her son Dan (Akiko) and grandchildren, Dion & Anela.

Taeko was born on May 18, 1941, in Yokohama, Japan. Her parents were Tokichi & Hana Minamihashi, and her older sister, Etsuko. Taeko trained as a beautician and was running a beauty shop in Sagamihara, Japan, when she married Chuichi in 1966. The couple immigrated to Canada in 1967. They lived in Vancouver, BC and Abbotsford, BC before finally settling in Kelowna, BC.

Taeko enjoyed gardening, cooking, shopping, and caring for her family. She was known for her kindness, and for her selfless & respectful personality.  Taeko was a gentle yet strong spirit who put other’s needs before hers.

We thank Dr. Paul Hart, and all the staff at Mountainview Village in Kelowna, for their kindness, concern, and assistance to Taeko for the past eight years of her life.

In lieu of flowers, or to honor her life, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

A private cremation ceremony will be held on April 12, 2023, to honour Taeko. She will be laid to rest at the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery on April 13, 2023 at 2:00pm.
