We Remember

Watts, Leslee Anne (nee Shaner)

April 15, 1951 — June 15, 2012

Leslee has gone to be at peace with Jesus.  Even after her diagnosis and treatment for cancer she lived a full and busy life.  She is survived by her love and best friend for over 40 years, husband Larry, daughter Kathryn (James) Vig, grandson Zachery, granddaughter Emily, mother Thelma Shaner and sister Leah (David) Griffiths.  She was sadly predeceased by her son Andrew in 2007 and her father Alan Shaner.  Leslee graduated from the University of Calgary in 1975 with a Bachelor of Nursing, worked as a RN at Burnaby Hospital and most recently at Kelowna General Hospital, primarily in Maternity and the Nursery.  She was an elder at St. David’s Presbyterian Church; her passion after her faith in Jesus was her family, her horses and her cats.  She had many friends in all areas of her life and was always busy knitting, reading, gardening and in the kitchen.  Thanks are extended to all the caring staff of the Cancer Center for the Southern Interior and the Central Okanagan Hospice House.  A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 2:00 pm at St. David’s Presbyterian Church, 271 Snowsell St. Kelowna, with Rev. Richard Moffat officiating.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation – www.cysticfibrosis.ca, 2221 Yonge Street, Suite 601, Toronto, ON, M4S 2B4, the Cancer Center for the Southern Interior – www.bccancer.bc.ca, 399 Royal Ave, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 5L3 or the charity of your choosing.

  • Christie Bodnarchuk says:

    Dear Larry,
I loved coming to your house in North Van during the Hillside era of life. You always invited my over for lunch after church and really included me in your life.
Leslee had the best eyes, there was always a smile hiding behind them, her energy, quick wit and attention to the interior life astounded me. She paid attention, and it manifest itself everywhere. In the stew we would eat for lunch, the garden lush and wild, the faint smell of the barn on her boots, the knitting needles and basket placed near the couch. She was out to live life in the moment and yet had this spirit of rest in the midst of activity.
I loved that she called you Watts, and always laughed at your jokes and stories… there was usually an eye roll and a sigh at some point. You showed me that married people could be good friends, and really honoured each other with kind words. She loved Jesus and told His story with her life and actions. She told it to me, and part of who I am becoming is because of what she gave to me. And in turn, I choose hospitality, paying attention and looking for that one person who looks out of place and might need a meal, a cup of tea and a listening ear.
I will continue to honour Leslee, by giving thanks and having my words and actions match. She was that woman, and a force of nature as she moved through life. And she lived it well, and with love.
I will be praying God’s blessing and comfort, as you grieve, remember and simply have to keep going. I trust the love of family and friends will surround you. But when you feel a gap, and an ache…… know that you are being upheld and sustained in prayer.
I happened to be at Kim and Matt Pierrots house when I heard the news. I thought of you all often through that first weekend, and will continue to pray. I took some time to pray and remember Leslee life and all she gave. It was a good to reflect and honour her.
    Grace and Peace,
    Christie Bodnarchuk
