We Remember

WEIR, James Harvey “Jim”

December 4, 1948 — October 2, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of Jim Weir, who passed away on October 2, 2026, at the age of 77, following a long battle with cancer.

Born on December 4, 1948, in Saint John, New Brunswick, Jim was a fun-loving, compassionate, and creative man with many talents. A gifted musician, he especially loved playing guitar and writing music. He also enjoyed poetry, drawing, and athletics, having been a gymnast in his younger years. Jim was known as someone who could do just about anything.

Jim had a generous heart and was always willing to help others. He was known to buy meals for those experiencing homelessness, simply because he saw someone in need.

Jim spent many years as an educator, primarily teaching Grade 7 before becoming a school principal. He taught in Penticton, Kelowna, Lethbridge, Armstrong, and Lacombe. He also served as a pastor at several Seventh-day Adventist churches, including Rutland, Winfield, Kelowna, Orchard City, and Three Angels in Penticton.

Jim is lovingly remembered by his wife, Joann; children, Jamie Weir, Jason (Laura) Weir, and Jaala (Justin) Freed; his grandchildren, Johnathan, Joshua, Hayden, and Connor; his siblings, Katie Gummo and Perry (Anne) Weir; and his sister-in-law, Rae Weir.

He was predeceased by his parents, James and Glenna Weir, and his brother, George Weir.

Jim will be remembered for his kindness, creativity, sense of humour, and willingness to help others. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
