We Remember

WEISMILLER, Susie Elsie “Sue” (née de Jong)

August 29, 1928 — August 24, 2020

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the peaceful passing, into the presence of her Lord, of our beloved mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt and true friend to many.

Born on August 29, 1928 in Beaverdell, BC, the youngest of 5 children, Sue grew up on the family dairy farm near Trail, BC.  In Trail she met and fell in love with Ken Weismiller, and they married in 1952. They had 2 sons and 3 daughters and lived in Victoria, Courtenay, Campbell River and West Kelowna.

Sue was an avid gardener, great cook and baker, knitter, poet and artist. She loved commemorating events with one of her poems. She also enjoyed singing and playing the piano at home and at church. She dearly loved all her family and liked hosting meals and events for family and friends. Being a grandmother and doing activities with her grandchildren was one of her greatest joys. She was a good friend to many people.

Sue spent her last years at the Village at Smith Creek and the family is grateful to all who cared for Sue in her final years including Audrey, her personal caregiver.  Thank you!!

Sue will be deeply missed by her 5 children: Suzanne (Gerald), Bill (Debbie), Paul (Joy), Miriam and Carmen; her 8 grandchildren: Stephanie (Scott), Paige (Cody), Danica, Theoren, Owen, Jasmine, Richenda and Rebecca (Michael); and her 9 great-grandchildren: Ezra, Judah, Aravis, Keziah, Corban, Ryder, Chase, Preston and Baby Watson. She will also be missed by her sister, Annie, her sister-in-law, Ida, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Kenneth, her parents, Reinder and Wijbrigjen de Jong and her siblings, Gertrude, John and Louis.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Sue’s name to World Vision, a cause that Sue supported her entire adult life, www.worldvision.ca.

A graveside celebration of Sue’s life will be held at Westbank Cemetery, 3200 Elliott Road, West Kelowna, at 1:00 pm on Monday, August 31, 2020. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the number of attendees will be limited, if you wish to attend please click here to sign up.

Our heartfelt sympathy to the family on the passing of your beloved Mom and our beloved Aunt.
She and my Mom were very close and I have had the privilege of having them in my home many times ; enjoying their stories of Holland, immigration and hard work on their dairy farm in Beaverdale BC; also their quick wits and ability to make us laugh.
They are both in heaven now reuniting with family and friends who have gone before. We will see them again!
    Much love,
    Marg and Don Mclellan

Mom accepted me into her family right from the start and without reservation. She loved me as a son and I loved her as my mother. She was always so kind, considerate, and loving. I am so sorry for your and my loss. I’m glad I came today to be with you all in celebration of her life. Her legacy is the wonderful family that you are.

  • Winona Bowman says:

My family and I are so sorry for the loss of your beloved mother and grandma! Auntie Susie was very dear to us and to my mom and Auntie Susie’s sister, Anne. I know she will be sorely missed, and we will miss popping by for a visit as well when we are near Kelowna! Auntie Susie always was so welcoming and was such a loving auntie and great auntie to my children. Her warmth and hospitality and memories of her youth were always a joy! Our summer vacations were never complete without a visit with Auntie Susie. My mom is full of loving memories of her sister, and I know anticipates the day that they will be together again in the joyful presence of the Lord Jesus! Our special love and prayers go out to Suzanne, Bill, Paul, Miriam, and Carmen and all their families.

  • Audrey "AJ" Reimer says:

My sincere heart of sadness but also rejoicing over Mrs. Weismiller’s passing. I was blessed to meet such a amazing example of what a Godly woman looks like at the age of 14. We attended the same church and at the time I met her husband Ken as well. I am grateful to have known her. The Lord has her in his arms now. His daughter has come home. 💗
