We Remember

WELCH, Stephen “Steve”

February 20, 1964 — November 24, 2022

At the age of 58, Stephen Welch passed away peacefully while at home, on November 24, 2022. Funny and a good storyteller, Steve could captivate a crowd. He was an avid volunteer. For many years he was active in Kelowna Minor Hockey as coach and division director, Kelowna Minor Baseball as board member, coach and division director, Kelowna Minor Basketball as coach and Okanagan Athletics Club as a volunteer official. Steve’s love of problem-solving was evident in his pursuit to master a song on his guitar or find the solution to a complex IT problem at work.

Steve will be deeply missed by Tracy, who has been with Steve for 31 years, and their children Cameron and Zachary Welch. He was dearly loved by his mother-in-law, Lynn Birch, and his brother & sister-in-law, Richard and Holly Welch. He was sadly preceded in death by his father and namesake, Stephen Patrick Welch.

In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed to Canadian Mental Health Association.

A Celebration of Life will be held to honour Stephen on FRIDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2022, at 1:00 PM (PST), at SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME (2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC). If you are unable to attend in person, please join the family online by Livestream at the time of the service (see below), a recording will be made available to view shortly thereafter.

Condolences

  • James Joyce says:

I have known Steve and family for almost 30 years. Even though the family moved to Kelowna we tried to keep in touch, a great person. Will be missed.

  • Michael Caveney says:

Joe and I are remembering you in our thoughts and prayers. Lots of hugs.

  • Brad Marsh says:

Steve and I worked on computers doing cabling and troubleshooting 30 plus years ago. It was always a pleasure working with him and having him as a friend. We just got back in touch a couple of months ago. Prayers to the family and I’ll miss him greatly.

  • Candace cousins says:

Our deepest condolences to you Tracy , Cameron and Zachary . Our thoughts and prayers are with you .

  • Laurel Lenormand says:

Steve was a kind and gentle man. He came to stay with my parents when he was just becoming a man. He was searching for somewhere to belong and found it with Mom and Dad — Frank and Nadine Larson. He was able to form strong bonds with them that lasted the rest of their lives. Steve brought much energy to their home and they loved him deeply. I and my young children spent time with Steve and he loved to play with them. They remember him picking them up by their feet and him ‘sweeping the floor’ with thier hair. Steve was significant in this life and he found many places to belong. My condolences to Tracy and her boys and to Richard and his wife.
    Laurel
