We Remember

WHATTAM, Marshall Graham Alexander

October 18, 1945 — February 3, 2021

The winds carry an air of deep sadness today with the loss of a kind, well-loved soul, Marshall Graham Alexander Whattam on February 3, 2021. Beloved soulmate and cherished husband to Colleen for over 30 years; stepfather to Jason Brolund (Shannon) and grandpa to cherished granddaughter Emily; stepfather to Jolene Brolund (Fiancée, Alex Miller) and grandpa to awesome grandsons Mason and Cole; brother-in-law to Murray Todd (Shelly) of  Armstrong, BC; brother to Robert Whattam; Marshall is also survived by many well-loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. Marshall was predeceased by sister-in-law Carole Whattam (d. March 2020), of Orleans, Ontario and sister Joan Donnelly (d. February 2015).

Marshall was born in Oshawa, Ontario October 18, 1945 to Emma Elizabeth Whattam (née Marshall) and Kenneth George Thomas Whattam. Marshall was a friend to many with a selfless demeanor whom he shared his “Royal Service” as Manager of Princess Auto, Kelowna, BC for over 27 years. It wasn’t always just about the product but the people he could please. Today Marshall’s photo graces the “Wall of Fame” in Princess Auto’s Head Office, Winnipeg, Manitoba, whereupon his retirement (2009) he was recognized and honoured as an outstanding leader in a successful company.

Marshall was admired and respected and his endeavours made him friends wherever he went. Marshall enjoyed a good conversation. Marshall will be missed and lovingly remembered by many.

Marshall was passionate with wood and loved to share his Wood Turning creations. His love for nature and adventurous spirit allowed him many cycling, camping and kayaking adventures. Marshall and Colleen loved to travel, blessed to most recently experience Latin America, The Cook lslands, Thailand, Peru, Ireland, Maui, Mexico, Dominican, and New Zealand were all Marshall’s favourites.

Marshall never shied from helping others or hard work. He loved his Okanagan home where he enjoyed quiet relaxation, music, a glass of wine, simple contemplation and his love for reading and books. Marshall valued time with friendships. He looked forward to time spent with family taking great pride in all their accomplishments.

Marshall fought a long, courageous battle with heart failure and will always be respected for his passion for life.

There is no “goodbye” Marshall, you will live on in our hearts forever. I will always be thankful for being loved by you.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. M. Sorestad, Okanagan Hospice House, and the caring staff at West Kelowna Pharmasave.

A profound thank-you goes out to all who have given unending support on this journey to both Marshall and Colleen. Jason and Jolene your steadfast love will never be forgotten.

Internment entrusted to Springfield Funeral Services will take place at Peachland Cemetery, regretfully with only family members present. In Lieu of flowers, you may donate to Knowledge Network Corp. of British Columbia, www.knowledge.ca

    Hi
I’m Glenn. My dad and I use to go to Princess Auto in Kelowna when Marshall worked there at the old Princess Auto store on Kirchner. My dad passed away back in 20/10 .Marshall was the nicest sales guy in Princess Auto. My dad always had Marshall do all our hydraulic lines for our backhoe. He alway took the extra time to please his customers . Dad and I got along with him so well. He was a friendly kind man always there to help and please his customers. I’m sure he’s talking to my dad right now. My condolences to his family. I didn’t know about his passing. I happen to have an old Princess Auto magazine with his pictures in it.
Best Regardes Glenn Ablewhite and my dad (Bill)
