We Remember

WHEATLEY, Lois Fay

May 18, 1935 — August 3, 2024

It is with great sadness that our family has had to say goodbye to our most amazing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Lois “Fay” Wheatley.

Fay was born on May 18, 1935 in Lac La Biche, Alberta, to Richard and Anna Tennant. From there, the family moved to Erskine, Alberta, with her parents are siblings. This is where she met and married the love of her life, Del Wheatley. They were married on August 27, 1954. In the years to follow, they lived all over western Canada, she was always up for the adventures that followed. They had their three boys while living in Estavan, Saskatchewan.

She is preceded by Del (d. 2022); her father Richard Tennant (d. 1976); her mother Anna Tennant (d. 1999); her siblings William, Jim, and Shirley; and daughter-in-law Nita.

Fay is survived by her loving sons Richard, Raymond, and Robert (Linda); her grandchildren Anissa, Meaghan, CJ, Terri-Lynn, Allan, and Stephanie; and her five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Marie; sisters-in-law Faye and Gayle; and her many nephews and nieces. Fay will also be deeply missed by the many people she welcomed into her home over the years, offering them a place to stay when they needed it and always making sure anyone who arrived at mealtime felt like family.

We would like to thank Dr. Prozesky and Dr. Mohr for their care and attention, as well as the nurses on 6West and 3MU at KGH. A special thanks as well to the excellent staff at hospice house, who made sure she was comfortable to the end.

As per Fay’s wishes, there will be no service or celebration of life. Family and friends will always remember her for who she was.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Central Okanagan Hospice House.

I was so sad to hear Fay had passed. She was a very special lady with a huge heart. Ray and CJ, you have your memories of her.

  • Danna Petkau says:

My condolences to the Wheatley family. Your Mom was a very “neat lady.” Through my parents, Wilf and Elaine Petkau, I have known Fay (and Del) since my teen years. I always enjoyed visiting with them, whether it be in our home or theirs. And over the years, I always looked forward to seeing them when back home visiting my parents. Recently, over the past few months, Fay was a real source of support and strength to me as I was dealing with my Dad’s situation and his subsequent passing in May (2024). Fay kept an eye on me, always making sure I was “doing okay,” keeping in touch, and how I appreciated that. She will be missed, truly missed. In your grief, remain strong, knowing you were fortunate to have her in your lives. Take care. Danna Petkau
