We Remember
Whillis, Robert John
March 4, 1948 — April 12, 2012
The peaceful passing of John Whillis occurred at Hospice House in Kelowna, following a battle with cancer. John was born in Kelowna to Jim and Bernice (Bunnie) Whillis. John graduated from Kelowna High School in 1966 and Washington State University in 1970 (BA Econ). He worked for Royal Trust until September 1975 when he moved to the Bahamas with RoyWest Trust Corporation. He then lived in Cayman Islands Nov 1978 – May 1981, Isle of Man to Sept 1982, Jersey CI to Dec 1984, Bahamas to Feb 1987, and back to Isle of Man till Aug 2009. He left the Bank at the end of 1990 to start his own business Fiduciary Management Services Limited. He sold out to Maitland Trustees in April 1997 and worked with that firm until he fully retired and moved back to Kelowna in 2009. In addition to his philanthropic work, John was instrumental in the origins and development of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, now an international organization, and was recently recognized by the Chief Minister of the Isle of Man for his contribution to the Island.
For those of us who were lucky enough to have John as a friend, we will all remember him for his two passions, golf and bridge.
