WHITE, Viola (Vi)
January 1, 1970 — January 1, 1970
Viola (Vi) White, 94, of Kelowna, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2013, at her home in Mountainview Village, Kelowna.
Vi was born May 26, 1919, to Albert and Wilhelmina (Minnie) Suess, in Herreid, South Dakota. In 1941, she married her childhood sweetheart, Karns Albert White, in Ellensburg, Washington. They began their life together in Aberdeen, South Dakota. In order to further Karn’s retail career, the family moved frequently, residing in Waterloo, Iowa; Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Peterborough, Ontario; Toronto, Ontario; Edmonton, Alberta; and, since 1971, Kelowna, British Colombia.
Vi was always active in her church as a Sunday School teacher. She loved the Lord her God with all her heart and it was evident throughout her life. She was a highly regarded member of the Women’s Committee, and the only female member of the Building Committee for the Laurier Heights Church in Edmonton. She was known for her outstanding skills as a hostess and her meticulous attention to detail. She hosted countless memorable events over the years for those in her church community as well as the business environment. Vi was an ardent student of American and Canadian history, visiting many significant historical sites. As a loving grandmother, Vi was an avid supporter of school concerts and sports functions. She was always ready with a story or a special treat. She was a loyal subscriber to her local symphony and theatre societies wherever she resided.
Vi was predeceased by her brother Floyd Suess of Bellevue, Washington; her sister Estelline Bennett of Tacoma, Washington; and her grandson David Bogaardt of Kelowna, BC.
She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Karns A. White of Kelowna, BC; daughters Karen Patterson of Oakdale, California, and Patricia O’Leary of Santa Rose, California; son John White (Diana) of Kelowna, BC; grandchildren Melanie Sluggett (Brian) of Santa Cruz, California; Peter O’Leary (Larkin) of Santa Rosa, California; Stephanie Morrison (Steve) and Brian White of Vancouver, BC; great-grandchildren Jessica Barr (Josh) of Kelowna, BC; Taylor and Sarah Beggs of Summerland, BC; Jordan, Cameron and McKenzie Sluggett of Santa Cruz, CA; and great great-granddaughter Lemmy Cole Barr of Kelowna, BC. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by all who knew her and especially by her family who knew her best.
The family wished to thank Dr. Dan Obedkoff and the staff at the Good Samaritan Society Mountainview Village for their loving care and attention.
