We Remember
WHITTAKER, Rick
—
After a brief, yet interminable battle with ALS, Rick Whittaker passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016 with his family by his side. He is remembered by Wendy, his wife of 27 years; sons Darcy and Ryan; his sister Diane (Pat) Shaw; niece Tami Shaw; nephew Kelly (Jen) Shaw and their children.
What made this disease manageable at all was the amazing care of family, friends, the BC ALS society, the angels at both the May Bennett Wellness Centre and the Central Okanagan Hospice House along with the many doctors and their pro-active support.
As he was an avid golfer and member at Sunset Ranch Golf Club, a celebration in his memory will be held there in the coming weeks. To be personally updated, please notify the family at rickwhittaker@hole19.ca .
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the ALS Society of BC, www.alsbc.ca or The Central Okanagan Hospice House, www.hospicecoha.org. If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”

My deepest sympathy goes out to a favorite Ellison family-Ryan, Darcy, Wendy. May your family memories help you through this tough time!
Wendy and Family
Our families thoughts are with you and your family at this time. Not much a person can say at a time like this except Rick was an excellent person, proud husband and father. There is no doubt a void in your and your families lives as well as the golfers at Sunset Ranch and beyond.
Sincerly
Glen, Kathy, Josh and Samantha
Wendy, Ryan, Darcy my thoughts are with you all at this time. So sorry for your loss.
Rick was a wonderful father, husband, brother and friend. We will forever miss him and treasure all the great memories. Our condolences to you all, much love now and always. ❤️
Margaret, Brad, Jennifer and Jordan White
Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies in losing Rick so early in life.
We will remember Rick in so many positive ways-with a big smile and a great sense of humor. Always willing to rejoin the team any time we came to Vernon or Penticton tournaments. From the very early days of soccer in Maple Ridge and the BBQs at Hans Griffeon’s home to the lakeside parties in Vernon, where you and Rick became gracious hosts with your trailer becoming the center of activities.
We are sure that the positive examples Rick set will provide a compass for your boy’s journeys though life.
We hope that the happy memories and the support of family and friends will help you through this difficult time.
Dear Wendy and Family – I was so sorry to hear about Rick’s illness and passing. I remember Rick with that “innocent” grin and fun way about him. Sunset Ranch will not be the same without him. He will be missed, my heart goes out to you all.
We have just heard about your terrible loss and wish to extend our deepest sympathies to your family. Our heart goes out to you at this time for a life ended far too soon. Rick was a great guy and will be terribly missed.
