We Remember

WIELER, John “Larry”
September 6, 1927 — April 1, 2020
Larry passed away peacefully, after a stroke, on April 1, 2020. Left to mourn are his wife Helene, daughters Marilyn MacLean, and Lori (Ron) King, sons Robert and Ronald (Susan), and grandchildren: Allan (Brett) MacLean and their children Sidney and Skye; Gordon (Krista) MacLean and their child Riley; Nicole (Trevor) Wiens and their children Kylee, Alexa and Quinton; and Susan (Jason Carpenter) King and their child Alexander.
John Larry Wieler, eldest son of John and Maria Wieler, was born on September 6, 1927 in Winnipeg, MB. He grew up as part of an extended family: parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles and friends. He graduated from Kelvin High School. He had many careers amongst them are teaching, construction and real estate. Music was always part of his life and he sang in a variety of choirs and did solo work. In 1951, he married Helene Friesen and together they raised 4 children: Marilyn, Robert, Lori and Ronald. The family travelled via tents and later trailer. In 1986, Larry and Helene lived in Brunei, Borneo which gave them the opportunity to travel extensively. They retired to Kelowna, BC in 1995, shared a home with daughter Lori King, her husband Ron and their daughters Nicole and Susan. They became active members of the Mennonite Church and travelled extensively to see family and friends. They were part of a condo community where Larry participated in the swimming exercise group, soaked in the hot tub, played crib, and met with their neighbours.
If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Condolences”.
As you gather at the grave side to remember Larry’s life, I will be with you in spirit praying that God’s love and comfort surrounds you. What I will remember most is his gift of music and the way he shared it. It did not matter if the choir was big or small, the language sung was English or German or it was carol singing with the relatives, his beautiful voice rang out loud and clear.. As you are gathered I hope you will hear echoes in your memories of some of the hymns he so often sang in church and that they bring you comfort.
Love Peg

Hello, Helen and Family: Abe and I had a brief review of the years at Bethania that connected us all. I’ve also spoken to Jack lately. We extend our condolences, of course, and wish all the Very Best for you personally, and those around you.
I see Bob occasionally, but not since Larry’s death. Sincerely, Helmut and Friends
