We Remember

WIENS, William Neil “Bill”

William Wiens, known as Bill, went to be with the Lord on January 2, 2020.  He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Margaret of nearly 70 years; four children Raymond (Kathryn), Leroy (Ruth), Stanley, Geraldine (David), 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his daughter Janice, a twin to Stanley at the age of 1 ½.

Born in Humbolt, Saskatchewan, at the age of 4 his family moved to the Fraser Valley to take up dairy farming.  As a young adult, farming on his own proved to be too difficult, and so began a long career with Canada Post.  He began in Matsqui, British Columbia and moved around to several different offices and eventually retired as Post Master of the Sardis, British Columbia Post Office.

He loved God and over a lifetime of service, it didn’t matter whether he picked up children for Sunday School, or served as a chairman of the church board; he did it all with a smile on his face and to the glory of God.

He enjoyed travelling with Mom; especially the many trips to Hawaii, playing table games, fishing with Stanley, and hosting a number of large family events.  One of his great joys in life was to see his children; grandchildren and their children all together, Whistler family events were a highlight.

In 2015 Bill and Margaret moved to Kelowna to be closer to their children and enjoyed 4 wonderful years here.  The last months were a struggle for Bill, and the family is grateful to the staff at Brookhaven for their wonderful care and support in his final days.

A celebration of life service and luncheon was held at Kelowna Gospel Fellowship Church on January 18, 2020.
