We Remember
WILSON, David
—
After a life well-lived, Dave has embarked upon his next adventure.
The family wishes to announce Dave’s peaceful passing in Kelowna General Hospital on December 4, 2021, just short of his 81st birthday.
Dave will be greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, his many nieces and nephews, and close friends. Gregarious, and frequently sporting a grin, and a twinkle in his eye, he was always game for a good laugh or a chat.
Dave will be fondly remembered by his colleagues at the CBC as a talented and experienced cinematographer. He traveled the four corners of the world, occasionally risking life and limb, to document many significant social and political events for “The National” and “The Journal“.
In retirement, Dave discovered his love of boats – the bigger the better. Upon earning his captain’s license he spent many delighted hours on Okanagan Lake. He loved photographing animals, helping friends, and working with things that got his hands dirty.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to Dr. Robert Williams for providing excellent and compassionate care to Dave during his illness. According to Dave’s wishes, there will be no service. The family will gather in the spring for a Celebration of Life.

Dearest Leonne,
You and Dave were such an important part of my life. I think of you both often and our houseboating on the lake. He will be greatly missed. Love always, Tara
It was with a great deal of sadness that I learned of Dave’s passing. He will truly be missed. I worked on several assignments with Dave at the CBC in Regina and always found him to be very professional and a hard worker. He was also a very good friend who would go out of his way to always do the best work he could. Without a doubt he was a leader among his peers. Please accept my deepest condolences Leonne and pass along my sympathy to Dave’s family.
I was fortunate to work with Dave a few times several years ago. He was always fun to be with and a total professional. He was a good man.
I worked with Dave a few times after he moved to BC. Great camera work, fun to be with. The mark of a pro!
There were very few days between the summer of 1975 and the summer of 1976 where Dave and I didn’t work together. We were both based in Saskatchewan reporting for the National and we travelled the province and the country alongside each other. He taught me a lot about work and life and I’ll always owe him for that. A terrific guy with the pro touch and a wonderful sense of humour. Condolences to Leonne and family.

My sincere condolences to all family members. I was a friend of Dave way back when !! We lost track of each other but I never forgot his love of life and how much friendship meant to him. We had some good times together !! I tried a few times to find him but I guess I was looking in the wrong areas in BC !! I can still hear the drawl in his voice. He said it came from his days in Moosejaw. 🙂 I’m sure Leonne, you must have a bank full of hawsome memories. and stories with Dave. I will never forget my good buddy from my Journal days.. RIP
I joined The Journal just prior to going on-air. There was a technician’s strike so it was a little delayed, but I have such wonderful memories of that time and indeed Dave did put his life on the line on numerous occasions travelling to foreign assignments to bring back important stories. Such professionalism, humour, and enthusiasm. My condolences to his family.
Hello Leonne – I am so sorry to hear this. As you probably know, Bob Whyte died in December 2020. I remember them both as friends. Hope you are well. Best, Joy
