We Remember

WILSON, Theodore Webster

October 9, 1930 — April 4, 2024

On April 4, 2024, Theodore “Ted” Wilson passed away at The Vineyards Residence in Kelowna, BC.

Family truly meant everything to Ted. He is survived by his children, Deb and Duncan (Leah), and his son-in-law Dom; grandchildren, Nathon (Ljubica), Shawntell (Ryan), Conor (Joelle), Sheena (Corey) and Kyle; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Matthew, and CJ. He is also missed by his sister, Sharon, and brother, Lew. He was predeceased by his wife, June; daughter, Denise; grandson, Tyrell; and his son-in-law, Dwight.

Ted was born in Red Deer, Alberta, then moved to Kelowna as a toddler. Ted had many adventures growing up in Kelowna from bike riding, fishing, camping, inventing things, and spending summer days at Okanagan Lake.

Kelowna is where he met the love of his life, June, while working at Waldron’s Grocery store. They married on July 1st, 1952, and their marriage was blessed with three children.

Ted’s sense of adventure kept the family packing while he served 20 years in the RCAF: they moved to Saskatoon, SK; Winnipeg, MB; Germany; Ottawa, ON; and then retired in Kelowna.

Upon his retirement from the Air Force, the family settled in the Ellison Area, where they built their family home. They planted various fruits and enjoyed tending to their orchard. Ted worked at the Kelowna airport as well as the Mac & Fitz packing house.

Known for his quick wit and “groaner” jokes, he enjoyed bringing a smile to the faces of those around him. Golf was a passion, he enjoyed playing on the course, driving balls on the orchard, and watching tours on TV. Whether tending to his orchard or enjoying the serenity of his property, he found solace and contentment in the great outdoors, he loved to get firewood and chopped wood up until he moved to The Vineyards in November 2022!

Ted enjoyed spending time with family, playing board games & canasta, playing ping-pong, shooting pool, cross country skiing, tobogganing, tinkering in his shop, and driving his tractor. He loved Cinnabon Thursday and breakfasts at Cora’s on Fridays.

Ted undertook many difficult challenges during his long life and loved to share stories of the resulting misadventures and “disasters”. One such disaster was a camping trip over the alps from Germany to Italy and back, with six people in a VW Beetle pulling a homemade one wheel trailer. What could possibly go wrong? Ted would tell you all about it, with many laughs. Living proof that tears eventually turn to laughter.

Ted’s family wishes to extend their sincere thanks for the care that he received from the staff at the Vineyards Residence.

We will always remember “God Shining Eyebrows”

Ted will be lovingly remembered by his family, friends and close neighbours.
