We Remember

WITTUR, Marion Patricia “Pat”
November 19, 1941 — January 23, 2025
Pat’s family is sad to announce her passing at Kelowna General Hospital on January 23, 2025, at the age of 83, owing to complications relating to Alzheimer’s.
Pat is survived by Glen, her husband of 61 years; her sons Allan in Victoria and Bill (Lisa) in Kingston, ON; daughter Tamara in England; five grandchildren Emery, Robyn, Jack, Mason, and Lauren; sisters Nora Stoskopf and Joan (John) McGuinness; and several sisters- and brothers-in-law. She was predeceased by her parents, Dr. William Atwood Young OC and Marion Waldron Young; and two sisters Diane McCarthy (Jackson) and Ruth Hopper.
Pat was born in Fergus, ON, and raised there and in Guelph. She earned her Registered Nursing degree in 1963 at Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal and has remained in close contact with several of her nursing colleagues ever since.
Pat and Glen were married in 1963 and lived in Ottawa. For many years, they enjoyed their cottage in Quebec, with many close friends spending Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, and Easter as they built their dream vacation home. Pat and Glen also lived in Pennsylvania for a short time while Glen was studying, and then finally eight years in The Netherlands, where Glen was the founding Secretary-General of the International Nickel Study Group. They retired to Kelowna (Glen’s hometown) in 1998. Both played a prominent role in the Kelowna Newcomers Club, where they were privileged to make many new and lasting friends, including members of RUMPS and their spouses.
Pat was always very generous with her time. In Ottawa, she was an active leader with the Brownies and Girl Guides and taught swimming to children with disabilities. While in The Netherlands, Pat chaired the Canadian Women’s Club. In retirement Pat was very active in church activities, especially with the former St. Paul’s United church.
Pat enjoyed her nursing career at several hospitals in Ottawa and loved music, singing, and playing cards as well as travelling: benefitting from the culture, cuisine, and sights of nearly 50 countries on six continents.
Pat was ever a warm, caring and generous person wherever she lived and in whatever activity with which she was involved. She will be sincerely missed by her family and her many friends worldwide.
A celebration of life for Pat will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff of 4 East at Kelowna General Hospital for their kindness and understanding during her final days.
In Pat’s memory donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of BC, or to a charity of your choice.

My sincere condolences to Glen and family . I meet Pat when she first was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, I was her caregiver. I absolutely enjoyed my time with Pat, loved her stories of travel, photos and her two pugs. We even went to church together and loved our outings. I often thought about Pat and Glen , Pat heart was so genuine . When I told her I did clothing drives for the homeless she would sort through clothes and have a bag for me every visit. We also loved swimming , Pat loved swimming , loved her family fiercely , my thoughts and prayers are with you all . Kimberly

Glen:
What sad news to hear of Pat’s passing. She was an integral part of my life as a spiritual mentor. She was unselfish and loving. I always felt so special when in her presence. I remember many conversations around the dinner table of all your many worldly adventures.. I loved swimming on hot summer days in the pool, walking the dogs on the icy wintery days.
Pat helped me through some really hard stuff in my life – I loved her so much. I will miss her.
All the best Glen. With love.
Tracy
Glen and Family,
We are saddened to hear of Pat’s passing. We knew her as very active member of St. Paul’s United Church. Her nursing career experiences extended long after she retired as a volunteer throughout the whole community. She was always there to help. Many people will remember her as a comforting, caring friend at Hospice House who helped them through very difficult times. We hope your many year of pleasant family memories will give each of you strength now and in the days ahead. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
