We’re so sorry to hear about Tony and Merlene. They were good people and are going to be sadly missed, by those left behind.
Tony and Marlene will be missed. There will always be a special place in my heart for these two and their love story. Peace.
I am sad to hear of Tony and Merlene’s passings but comforted to know that they went within days of each other.
I regret having lost touch and not knowing their whereabouts after they
moved from the little house on Benvoulin. Happy memories of visiting the Rock Shop. Blessings, Judy Kent
So sorry to hear of Tony and Merlene’s passing, they will be missed. I spent lots of time in Tonys Rock shop with my Dad, as a kid. Even helped out selling in Orchard park when he would rent a stall for the rock show. So many great memories…..Larry, Helen, and Judy Elderkin
Tony’s Rock Shop was a place of wonders for so many of us in Kelowna, and the magnificent garden of Irises a glorious public display.
May they rest in well earned peace.
I am deeply saddened to hear that Tony and Merlene have passed. I have very fond memories of my father taking me to Tony’s Rock Shop and allowing me to look at everyone of Tony’s treasures. It was Tony that inspired my dad to build a rock tumbler for me. May the family be comforted by the community’s fond memories.
My Brother, My Teacher, My Pal. Silenced is the whirr of saws, tumbling tons of treasure, door bell dinging, phone ringing, kids screaming, with a cloud of polish and oil in the air, and all this happening at the same time. All this now travels with two angels that were sent to us 90 some years ago.
Years ago, Kelowna burned. Our house was affected, and the 1st call I got on my cell phone was Tony….”When are ya movin’ in?” We had been evacuated to a rusty house, and the cell phone was the only way to get ahold of us. Unsure what was coming, Tony and Carey had built a wall in an area in the shop, for me, my equipment and goldsmiths bench.
Sounding Angelic, isn’t it. I stayed at Tony’s just under a year, until we moved to our new house in Glenmore. Any rent I gave to him, I found, tossed back over the locked door to my work area. A million people came through that shop asking if I was Tony’s son, after about twelve times, I proudly stated ‘yes’ to being the only child.
I will miss you both dearly.

What an amazing and wonderful couple Myrlene and Tony were.. When I first became interested in rocks and lapidary 25 years ago, I learned so much from Tony and Myrlene. Tony lived for the Rock Shop and was so gracious and helpful sharing his knowledge. They must have had thousand of friends who have fond memories of Tony’s Rock Shop
Very sad to hear of Tony and Merlenes passing I spent many enjoyable afternoons at their rock shop and learned a great deal from them both they will be greatly missed
