We Remember

WOOD, Marilyn Patricia
April 7, 1932 — August 2, 2021
Marilyn passed away peacefully at the Kelowna Hospice House on August 2, 2021.
Marilyn was born in Toronto, Ontario on April 7, 1932. She graduated as a Lab Technician in 1952 from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto, ON. She then moved to Sarnia, Ontario and began work as a Lab Technician there. She met Patrick Wood and they married in 1956. They raised 3 children together and had a very active life of golfing, skiing, and going on camping trips.
Marilyn’s passions were cross country skiing at the Kimberley cross country ski trails and golf; she was a longtime member at the Harvest Golf Club in Kelowna, BC where she achieved a ‘hole in one’, and she was also a longtime golf member at Trickle Creek Golf Resort in Kimberley, BC. Marilyn loved the beauty and mountains in Kimberley, BC where they owned a ski/golf place for over 30 years.
Pictured above is Marilyn, at 15 years old, with her beloved Spaniel named Freckles who was a gift to Marilyn from grandma Emma Kit; Marilyn spoke of Freckles lovingly throughout her life.
Marilyn was kind, loving, generous, and supportive. Her beautiful smile will always be remembered.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 64 years, Patrick Wood; her children Melanie (Ross) and Donald; her grandchildren Nicolas, Christopher, and Danielle; and her great-grandchildren Bella and Cain. Marilyn was predeceased by her parents Edythe and Art Bakes; her brother Bill Bakes; and her daughter Jill.
A special thank-you to Val; her dedicated, longtime golfing friend.
A private family service will take place.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marilyn’s honor to Central Okanagan Hospice Association: Hospice COHA or the Canadian Wildlife Federation.

Hello Melanie, sorry to here about your mom – may u hold the memories close to your heart forever, Patricia
What sad news! My sincere condolences to Pat and Family. My late husband David Dombowsky and I met Pat and Marilyn through golf at the Harvest Golf Club many years ago. Marilyn had a smile that lit up a room; she was so good humoured, always chuckling about something. She was a very good golfer too and was a fixture on the course, participating in all the Ladies’ Club activities over the years. She spoke lovingly of her children and grandchildren.
David and I had the pleasure of visiting Pat and Marilyn at both their Kelowna residence as well as their Kimberly vacation home. Marilyn entertained with classic ease, making us feel so welcome. Marilyn you were a special person and I am grateful to have known you. I shall remember you fondly.

My deepest condolences to the family of Marilyn Wood. The wonderful person Marilyn was shows in her children. Jill, Don and Melanie had a wonderful Mother and were loved unconditionally. Marilyn and Pat before Jill and I were married purchased a place on the ski hill in Kimberley BC. This place is where my fondest memories are.
Marilyn adored her grandchildren and must have known that someday she would be a grandma and have grandkids and they would be there for summer visits. Pat and Marilyn introduced the game on golf to them. My son Nicolas and Marilyn had a special bond and golf was a part of that bond. And with my daughter Danielle who was not interested in golf Marilyn found other ways to be the special person she was to her.
Marilyn Wood , truly a wonderful woman , wife , mother and grandmother. You will be greatly missed.
Love Ryan
I am very sorry for your loss and wish your family strength during this difficult time.
