We Remember
WORK, Dorothy Isabel
May 10, 1931 — August 17, 2022
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Dorothy Isabel Work (née McCulloch) on Wednesday, August 17, 2022.
We will remember Dorothy’s wit, ready smile and her zest for living.
Born May 10, 1931, in the Mather area of Manitoba, Dorothy was the oldest daughter to Wallace and Bessie Jane (née Mullin) McCulloch. Dorothy grew up on the farmland in Crocus County, where she met and married William “Bill” Work.
Dorothy and Bill moved to Pine Falls, MB, where Darlene was born and then to Atikokan, ON, where Doug and Murray were born. In 1961, the Work family moved to Thompson, MB, where she worked as a care aide. They resided there until their children grew up, after which Dorothy and Bill moved to BC, where they ultimately retired.
Dorothy and Bill enjoyed many years of retirement together, and they went on many adventures with their RV. After Bill passed, Dorothy continued to travel with friends and family on bus tours and even a cruise. Dorothy spent her retirement golfing, bowling, and playing card games; volunteering at her church, baking (famous for her brownies); and spending time with family and friends. She could also be found tending to her flower gardens.
Dorothy is survived by her son Douglas (Linda); two grandchildren Murray (Jolene) and Iris (Dave); and two great-grandchildren Samuel and Brooklyn. Also surviving is her sister Elsie, brother Lorne (Beverly), and numerous extended family. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Bill; daughter Darlene and son Murray; parents Wallace and Bessie Jane; and brother Donald and sister Marjorie.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff and residents of Sandalwood Retirement Community for their support and The Vineyards Residence Kelowna for the wonderful care they provided Dorothy in her final months.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to charities that support peace, end hunger, and spread kindness.
There will be a private graveside service held at a later date.

I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the entire family,
I had the privilege of knowing Dorothy during her time at Sandalwood. Her genuine smile and kindness always drew people to her. I have missed having a quick hello with her each day and often going to help her with her TV or phone while she waited for Doug, Linda, Iris or her sister to come for one of their very frequent visits. She was truly lucky to have such a supportive and loving family. Please know that my thoughts are with you all. xo
Doug, Linda and Iris
