We Remember

WOYTOWICH, Barbara “Barbi”

In Loving Memory of Barbi Woytowich, a dedicated baker who embraced life, passed away on August 22, 2023, at the age of 64, after a valiant battle with cancer. Her life was a testament to hard work, unwavering friendships, and cherished family bonds.

Born into a life that was no stranger to change, Barbi’s childhood was marked by frequent moves due to her father’s profession as an Electrolux Salesman. Despite the challenges of uprooting, she seized opportunities to make new friends and embrace new experiences, and that trait lasted into adulthood. Her love for animals was a constant throughout her life. Among many adventures, a standout memory was a 10-day Australia trip that she won on the radio, which left a mark on her adventurous spirit. A trip to Mexico with Gen also held a special place in her heart, visiting with cousins, and providing her with cherished memories of exploration and discovery with good friends.

Barbi’s journey through life was not without its share of loss. Fifteen years ago, she bid farewell to her beloved husband, Garry, who remained forever in her heart. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Stewart and Gwen, as well as her brothers Tim and Terry.

With great loss comes a new beginning, when Barbi and her family reconnected with her son, Don, who was given up for adoption. Fourteen years ago, the family rekindled their relationship and brought a new light and love into Barbi’s life. Through the reconnection also came a great friendship with her son’s adopted mother, Donna.

Left to honour her memory are her adoring daughter, Kim; and her son, Don, along with her daughter-in-law, Ramona. Barbi’s role as a mother was a source of deep pride. Her legacy extended to her grandson, Nolan, who will continue to carry on her spirit. Barbi’s family extended beyond her immediate kin, encompassing her sister Cheryl and brother-in-law John, as well as her sister-in-law Gen. The friendship between Barbi and Gen was a remarkable testament to lifelong connections. Having known each other since the tender age of 11, their enduring friendship provided a source of comfort and joy throughout their lives.

Rest in peace, dear Barbi. Your journey may have ended, but your spirit will forever live on in the warmth of freshly baked bread, the sunrise’s gentle embrace, and the love that surrounds your family and friends.

To honour Barbi, memorial donations may be sent to JoeAnna’s House Kelowna, where her daughter stayed during Barbi’s last moments.

  • Dawn Wilson says:

Barb had the most infectious smile and twinkle in her eye. She always made of point of popping out of the bakery if she saw me in the store to have a quick chat. We shared a mutual friend and a true love of animals. But I think above all else, Kim was her greatest treasure. You are missed Barb.
