We Remember
YOKOYAMA, Susumu
—
With profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of Susumu Yokoyama of Kelowna, BC. Sus is survived by his wife Gloria Jean; his sons Brad and Jody; his daughters Janinne and Carmen and grandchildren Brenden, Liam, Evan, Saige, Cassidy, Kristina and Lyric. He is also survived by his brothers Roy (Joyce), Ken (Jean) and his sisters Miyo, Terri (Dave), Jean (Bill) and many nieces and nephews.
Sus and Gloria Jean resided in Kelowna since 1986, following his retirement from his managerial role in the logging industry. He was born in Coghlan, BC on February 3, 1934 and during the outbreak of World War II, he and his family were interned in Sandon, BC. From there they moved to Rosebery, BC where Sus looked after his family and met his future wife Gloria Jean.
Sus was a true ‘Jack of all Trades’ who could fix anything and was exceptional at woodworking. He was a heavy duty mechanic who never encountered a problem he couldn’t solve. Sus was the kind of person who was there for anyone in need, be they close family or a stranger he encountered. Though he had faced many hardships in his life, Sus was a man who never complained and was always grateful to be surrounded by his family.
A celebration of Sus’s life will take place in Summer 2017, with dates and details to follow. If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”

Though I only met you briefly when you came into Janinnes’ shop to pick up Gloria, your quite, gentlemen, sweetness made the whole place stop to breath a beautiful sigh. As if if you just brought in a brand new fresh air. Janinne french talked to sweetly of you, with such love, and admiration. I can only imagine the feeling of loss in your family. My deepest condolences Gloria, and to all your family. May you find comfort in sharing your emotions, and stories of your special memories with him. Many heartfelt blessings & Hugs. Roni
