We Remember

ZINGER, Harold

August 18, 1936 — August 12, 2026

It is with immense love, gratitude, and heartbreak that we announce the loss of Harold Zinger, who passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on August 12, 2026, at the age of 89.

Harold was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He shared 68 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Anna, building a life of family, love, and countless memories.

Harold and Anna moved to Kelowna in 1964, when he was relocated from Vancouver with the Hudson’s Bay Company. He quickly became a valued member of the community through his work, church, and neighborhood.

Harold was the kindest of men – a generous, warm-hearted person who adored life and gave so much of his own to helping others. Deeply committed to the Glenmore neighbourhood, Harold started both the Glenmore Neighbourhood Watch and the Glenmore Community Policing Office. Even on his daily walks, he could be found picking up garbage along the way simply because he wanted to keep his neighbourhood clean and beautiful.

His dedication to his community did not go unnoticed. Harold received numerous civic acknowledgments, including the “Spirit of Kelowna” award in 2009, the “Neighbour of the Year” award in 2017, and a nomination for “Male Citizen of the Year”.

Harold will be lovingly remembered by his wife Anna; his children Gary, Glenn (Shelly), Brian, and Nancy (Craig); his grandchildren, Jenny (Colton), Kayleigh, Jeremy, Kolby, and Kelsie (Connor); and his great-grandchildren, Myah, Emilia, and Isla, who have brought him great joy.

He is also survived by his siblings, Doreen, Earl (Kathy), Keith, and Linda (Dennis). Harold was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Verena Zinger; his siblings, Eileen and Wilfred; his brothers-in-law, Harold and Len; and sisters-in-law, Susan, Doreen, and Alma.

Above all, Harold’s greatest legacy will be as a family man who was always there for anyone who needed a helping hand. He especially treasured being a grandpa and great-grandpa. He was a talented woodworker and an avid gardener who took great pride in his and Anna’s garden. As a devoted birdwatcher, he kept many feeders around his home and a broom at his doorstep to shoo away the squirrels. Harold enjoyed spending time outdoors, camping, and fishing with his brothers and sons. In his younger years, he loved playing baseball as an outfielder. He loved to travel and shared many adventures around the world with his wife, Anna.

Harold embraced life wholeheartedly, finding happiness in his family, church, community, nature, and the people around him. Through his kind and giving spirit, he made a tremendous impact on the many lives he touched and leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered with great affection.
