We Remember

LeROY, Ronald Albert

March 8, 1925 — March 16, 2024

Born March 8, 1925, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Ron LeRoy passed peacefully in his sleep on March 16, 2024, at David Lloyd Jones Home, where he was considered a favourite client by all the wonderful staff.

Ron will be interned on FRIDAY, JUNE 14, 2024, at 12 noon, at LAKEVIEW CEMETERY, 2850 Dry Valley Rd. Kelowna, BC, alongside his loving wife of almost seventy years.  

He is survived by his sons Tim and Warren and was predeceased by his wife Crystal (d. 2016), his son Dennis (d. 2006), and daughter Anita (d. 2006).

Ron grew up in Viscount, Saskatchewan with his brother Albert. They were raised by their mom alone during the depression. “The Boys” attended a typical one room school as long as they were able, Grade 8.  Unfortunately, their Mom passed and they were taken in by relatives. Food was scarce, and they were forced to go to work to contribute.  In 1941, the boys lied about their ages and signed to go to war. Ron joined the with Lake Superior Scottish Regiment and served for three years. Sadly, Albert was K.I.A. during his service.

Ron made it home and married Crystal on May 4, 1946.  He was offered land and farming from the government, but had enough during the “thirties”. They packed up and moved to Alberta, where he began a career in the “Oilpatch”. Ron worked his way up from roughneck on the Drilling Rigs, to Oilfield Operator in northern Alberta (Whitecourt). They made many lifelong friends and had a good life. They retired to their favourite BC city, Kelowna, in 1989. Ron was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He never passed up volunteering and contributing until he was 96. He and Mom danced at the Legion every Friday night until she passed six months short of their seventieth anniversary.

    I have many fond memories of Mr. Leroy and my Dad moving our organ so Tim and I could play in the Alberta Search for .. Talent Such a kind man.
