We Remember

MEAKIN, Warwick Stuart

April 14, 1937 — April 30, 2024

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Warwick Stuart “Stu” Meakin on April 30, 2024, at the age of 87.

Stuart was born on April 14, 1937, in Alcomdale, Alberta as the third of four siblings, and shared strong lifelong bonds with his family. Stuart was much loved and will be dearly missed by his siblings and all their families: brother Sydney & sister-in-law Anna; sister Joan (predeceased by brother-in-law, Robert); and brother Gordon (deceased) & sister-in-law Pat.

Stuart graduated from Lakeland College in Vermilion, Alberta, and worked a grain farm south of Alcomdale for decades. He was also employed by Norcen Energy Resources for his entire career. He was hardworking, creative, dedicated, determined, caring, and even-tempered, with a curiosity about the world and a wonderful sense of humour.

In 1967, he married teacher Gwendoline Joan (by whom he was predeceased) and they had one daughter, Heather Dawn. He later welcomed Heather’s husband Ryan and doted on their two children, Warwick and Gwendoline.

He is survived by his beloved second wife of 30 years, Lucille; her children, Robert Miklushichak, Bryan Nicholson, and Daryl Nicholson; her grandchildren Ashlund Miklushichak, Bradley Hoolaeff, and Cody, Rodney, & Jeremy Nicholson; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Upon retirement, Stuart and Lucille relocated to Kelowna in the Okanagan Valley. He enjoyed the wonderful weather which allowed him to spend time gardening, when he and Lu weren’t exploring the world together.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories.

Stuart will be remembered individually by family and friends; no formal service will take place.

  • Shirley Dudeck says:

I was very fortunate to spend time with Stu and Lucille as they spent time in Arizona. I remember he made some mean pancakes.
I also remember what a genuinely nice man he was. Lucille and Heather, I am so very sorry for your loss. I pray your warm memories will get you through your sadness.
