We Remember
SOLOWAY, Alexander
November 1, 1938 — October 20, 2023
On October 20, 2023, at the age of 84, Alexander “Alex/Al” Soloway passed away peacefully in Lake Country, BC.
Alex was a devoted family man who cherished his wife of 64 years, Violet, and his son, Jeffery. He held his grandchildren, AJ and Natasha, along with his great-grandchildren, Carver, Ellie, Ava, and Shade, in deep affection. His siblings, Lillian Hickie, Gladys Soloway, Natalie Dhoedt, Stan Soloway, Alice Balash (decd.), Marcy Cameron (decd.), Helen Mosiak (decd.) and Sylvester Soloway (decd.), were each in his heart, along with his late parents Thomas & Jossie Soloway. Alex held great affection for his numerous extended family members and friends. He possessed a truly compassionate, caring, and loving nature, offering unwavering support and help to his friends and neighbours. Al was undeniably a people person, and he continued to lend a helping hand to family and friends until his very last day.
Born on November 1, 1938, in the village of Myrnam, Alberta, Alex grew up alongside his 8 siblings. He later relocated to Vernon, BC, where he found employment at the Consumer’s Glass Plant in Lavington, BC, and then the Department of Highways in Vernon, BC, before retiring and moving to the Okanagan Valley.
An active person, Al’s passions included horseback riding, hockey, soccer, and bowling. He also had a remarkable talent for hand-tooled leatherwork, which he enjoyed as a hobby. Al always had a desire to explore the world. In his leisure time, he delighted in dancing, socializing, playing card games with friends, and getting his hands dirty while gardening.
We express our gratitude to those who are providing assistance during this difficult time. Al will be deeply missed by everyone he encountered throughout his life.
Family and friends will honour him, each in their own way. No formal service will be held.
