We Remember

SOLOWAY, Violet

May 30, 1939 — June 10, 2025

On June 10, 2025, at the age of 86, Violet Soloway passed away peacefully at home in Kelowna, BC.

Born in Sunset House, Alberta, Violet was a woman who brought warmth, style, and a genuine love of people into everything she did. She was the devoted wife of Alex Soloway for 64 years (who passed in 2023), and a caring mother to their son, Jeffrey. Violet was proud of her grandchildren, AJ and Natasha, and deeply loved her great-grandchildren, Carver, Ellie, Ava, Shade, and Stoney.

Violet worked in banking before retirement, then dedicated much of her time to her community. She volunteered with the Kelowna Hospital Auxiliary for 25 years, and was a regular at the Horseshoe Club in Lake Country, where she loved a good game of Crib.

She was known as an excellent cook and generous host. Whether preparing dinners for groups of seniors, celebrating holidays, or gathering with family and friends, Violet had a gift for creating welcoming spaces full of good food, laughter, and connection. Her home bloomed each spring and summer with flowers inside and out, and animals always brought a light to her eyes. She loved dogs, cats, bunnies, and horses, and they seemed to love her right back.

Her granddaughter Natasha shared, “Baba was always the one with style, the one who taught me ways and shades, to paint my nails, and about perms and outfits… Becoming a make-up artist later in my life had its seeds of inspiration from the summers spent with her. She will be missed, and our long conversations will be cherished. I love her and miss her dearly”.

Her grandson AJ added, “Baba was the best cook. She loved to entertain, to enjoy family & friends, to share a good laugh and share a beer, and make new friends. Baba always has a surprise for my sister and I when we came to visit, and the time spent together was always fun.”

Violet had a great eye for detail. Her jewellery, decorating, cooking, and clothes all reflected her flair for putting things together just right. She remained close with her high school friends Janet, Shirley, and Joanne, who stood with her at her wedding and stayed in her life until the end.

She loved to travel and explore new places across Canada and the United States. One of her most treasured friendships was with Romi from Austria, who became like a daughter to her. Romi’s friend Isi also visited often, and both were welcomed as family.

Violet will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Family and friends will honour her in their own way. No formal service will be held.
